Pediatric Oncology nurses

  • Work closely with the physicians and the hospital’s staff nurses to improve the overall quality of medical and nursing care.

  • Prepare intravenous chemotherapy drugs for administration

  • Join the physician’s rounds and discuss patients’ and parents’ concerns and questions

  • Follow all patients from the day of diagnosis and provide continuity of care.

  • Explains diagnostic tests and procedures and treatments to the patients and parents

  • Provide emotional support to the patients and parents

  • Assist physicians when children undergo painful procedures under sedation

  • Explain to parents the role of various medications and the importance of taking them on time

  • Explain the importance of seeking immediate medical attention for any  significant symptoms

Pediatric Oncology Social Workers

  • Provide ongoing psychosocial and emotional support to patients and families from the time of diagnosis to the completion of treatment and during long-term follow-up

  • Arrange psychologist consultations for patients and families in need

  • Help patients and families navigate through hospital services

  • Secure blood products for children from various sources

  • Mobilize funds from governmental schemes and NGOs to mitigate the financial burden for the families

Oncology Pharmacists

  • Prepare intravenous chemotherapy infusions

  • Educate the nurses regarding chemotherapy administration and side effects

  • Review all the medications to avoid any drug-to-drug interactions

  • Educate patients and families about chemotherapy drugs and their side effects

  • Work closely with the physicians to learn the patient’s diagnosis, present condition, and the protocol of treatment

  • Review the records of patients and nursing notes to monitor for any medication errors
